Comments About This Park
jimmie jones (9/6/2013): The park opened in about 1934. it had a large man made lake stocked with fish; picknic areas an I think comprised a section of land. The lake had a floating platform anchored in the middle that swimmers could get to. The first park caretaker was Howard Jones (1910-1984) who lived on the property with wife and family. He not only maintained the park but was allowed to operate the concession stands. He held that job until early 1941 when he moved into Clovis and rented a house on maple street. He was 24 in 1934.The clovis culture archeology team camped at this park while exploring the dig site. The jones' prepared breakfast and sack lunches for the team while staying there. The old adobe house that the family lived in is still standing. (report as inappropriate)
